This bilateral graph is from the Gallup poll of 2009. The question asked of respondents was
“Do you think the use of marijuana should be made legal, or not?” The bilateral graph allows us to see
the trend of the two answers to these questions across time – the dark green
line represents the percentage of respondents who answered no (do not legalize),
while the light green line represents the percentage of respondents who
answered yes (legalize). According
to this graph, views have shifted over time, from a relatively high percentage
of people not in favor of legalization in the early 70s to an almost even split
in 2009 (with 44% in favor of legalization and 54% against it).
