This map is an unstandardized choropleth map because although it
sorts the U.S. counties by the variable of race and uses colors to distinguish
the data, it does not do so in one standardized, areally-averaged way. According to the legend, counties are
shown “according to which races have a population greater than the national
average”, but this does not help the viewer know exactly how big said
population is or what other populations are represented in that county (again,
the legend says that if more than one race “has a population greater than the
average” they are shown as “multiethnic”).
