Although a DLG, Digital Line Graph, uses USGS data to create maps,
it does not rely on previously constructed maps, like the DRG (which scans USGS
topographic maps). Instead, a DLG
uses digital vector form to represent data on a map. This DLG map uses the SDTS (Spatial Data Transfer Standard),
which makes it easier for spatial data to be transferred between different
computer systems. This DLG map
shows Illinois and Missouri on a 1:24,000 scale.
